I find it interesting the way you set the elder bear's progress bar to full and then reduce it. I'm not sure how you went from 40 to 34 though. Extreme foes get 2 ticks for each progress/harm, so you should have been at 36. I'm just curious, and perhaps I missed something.
For the Strike move, you inflict 2 harm if armed with a deadly weapon (like a bow), and a strong hit grants +1 harm. So that's why the bear took 3 harm * 2 ticks.
And yeah, for normal progress tracks like for vows, I'm gonna count up to 10. But for enemy health, I thought it might be more intuitive (especially for people less familiar with Ironsworn) to count down, like a classic HP counter.

I think looking at a foe's progress bar as health is an interesting way to do it. Definitely makes it feel more like the way one would expect a fight to be measured.
